How to play Right of Way
Last updated: 2026-09-16
Right of Way is a logic puzzle made of arrows. Each board is full of them, and your job is to clear the board. There is one rule, and this page explains it, plus a few habits that help once the boards get crowded.
The rule
Every arrow points up, down, left or right. There are no diagonals, and an arrow never changes where it points.
Tap an arrow and it slides out of the board in the direction it points, but only if nothing is in the way between it and the edge. If another arrow blocks the path, the tapped arrow stays put.
Arrows can be long and bend through the grid. What matters is the path in front of the head. The board is solved when every arrow is gone, in any order that works.
Lives and moves
You have three lives per attempt. Tapping an arrow that cannot leave costs one life, and it does not count as a move.
Moves only count when an arrow actually leaves. Restarting clears your moves, but the clock keeps running, so a restart costs time.
Hints and stars
One hint a day is free. It shows a move that works. Using it caps that puzzle at two stars, in every mode.
Tips for harder boards
- Start with the arrows whose way out is already clear. Usually some of them sit near the edge.
- Before tapping, follow the path from the arrowhead to the edge. If anything is on it, that tap costs a life.
- When you are stuck, ask which arrow is blocking the one you want, and clear that one first. Hard boards are chains of these questions.
- Long arrows block a lot of cells. Removing one early often opens several paths at once.
Campaign
Campaign is a sequence of numbered levels. Difficulty rises on a continuous curve as the level number grows, so later boards have more arrows and longer chains.
The Daily Challenge
Every day there is one puzzle, the same for everybody, released at midnight UTC. The difficulty of each day is drawn from Easy, Medium, Hard and Nightmare.
It is ranked by moves first and time second: fewer moves wins, and the clock breaks ties.
The calendar
The calendar lets you play any past day since January 1 of the current year. Future days stay locked.
Past days do not enter that day's ranking, but your first win on each day still earns 10 PTS. Replaying a day you already won earns nothing.
